EC Approved FPS

Antec Frontal Protection Systems approved to 2005/66/EC

Antec have developed a low FPS made from Stainless Steel. As they are all low there was no requirement to test for a head impact within the 2005/66/EC regulation, although within Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA), this regulation requires all FPS Systems to be tested for a head impact requirement, “in all cases” which requires higher standards of compliance upon the systems being offered for sale, (<18% risk of injury, in the head impact criteria)

Previously the only requirement these FPS's needed to meet is the lower leg test. In order to meet this requirement, the FPS must prevent bending and shear in the leg. To achieve this, the bar must be very close to the car and in most cases smaller in diameter than this type of bar was in the past. Also, as the FPS needs to absorb energy and the bar itself cannot, the brackets need to be designed to absorb the energy, in which case the brackets deflect allowing the bar to be pushed into the front of the vehicle so as not to cause excessive injury to a pedestrian.

The only way of mounting spot lamps to these bars is to use the additional brackets available from Antec. If small spot lamps are required they can be squeezed inside the hoop. Otherwise they have to be perched rather precariously looking on top.

The FPS's appear to have certification which can be downloaded from Antec's web site or should be requested from your dealer. Please make sure that your model of vehicle is covered by one of the EU approved fitments as they still have non approved products for sale in non EU countries.

Antec approved FPS's are manufactured in Turkey.
